REVIEW OF "ROAD TO SELF" IN ProgRock (POLAND)
Prgresivo Rock The portal of Poland (Progrock) has published an interesting review of the album "Road to self".
then translated note:
time ago I read a book "Shadow of the Wind" in English Author Ruiz Zafon. The novel takes place in the 50 years of last century in the heart of Barcelona. Daniel, the main protagonist the book is experiencing the most dangerous adventure of his life. The novel is full of unusual phenomena, passion, tragic love scene Barcelona Gothic and Renaissance. Street names are cited in Barcelona nights of rain, an old abandoned palace, a mysterious book and a museum with photographs of the old part of the city meant to feel very attracted to this book that recreated it instead of "fantasy"
When I saw the Park Avenue Hotel in sepia as displayed on the cover of "Road to self" by the band Soul Apart, immediately remembered Zafon's book. The music on the CD is still causing me that impression. Although the band does not come from Spain but from Argentina, but the music is perfectly suited to this story, like a glove for my ideas about the city of Barcelona.
The first information about the landing party is that it is a group of progmetal.
And in that category was included.
Today, after listening to the CD I have some doubts.
And there are facts of a typical metal, but there are plenty of other inputs such as sounds of acoustic guitar, piano and other instruments less related to the metal, so that they can not be directly linked to the genre. Childbirth
therefore, that this is mostly progmetal part, carried out in an unplugged version.
The CD opens with "Point of departure." From the beginning, we have a clear sign that the CD will have a lot of versatility in the world of Soul Apart. The ethnic group combines the sounds generated by instruments like the ocarina, didgeridoo, shake, marimba with typical elements of metal, riff guitar, double bass, growls, falsetto and full complement of the sounds of piano and saxophone. Changes of tempo and mood, with vocal lines of good taste.
The first two works combine the mixture between experimental and chaotic that no doubt gives a really nice effect.
The third track on the album is "Monsoon", the first surprise. A beautiful ballad sung by a guest singer, Sonia Saravia a duet with the group, with some passages in a climate Evenesence.
acoustic guitars and piano create a deep state of melancholy and reflection.
The fourth track is the next surprise of this disc. But do not be surprised to know the nationality of the musicians (the cradle of tango Argentina). Thus, the band fuses their particular style with the tango. The idea seems crazy, but I assure everyone that after hearing this, generate an incredible atmosphere. The vocalist sings this song so beautifully, in a very nostalgic.
We should also mention his playing the piano, without which it is difficult to imagine "a good tango." In the middle of the song the musicians seem to remember its roots and manage to combine it with a hard metal. Eventually returns to a nostalgic mood, in the coda final.Genial.
The next track (The three steps of circle) is divided into three parts. Here are fragments that create a mysterious atmosphere of illustration, the sounds of wind, the singing voice only accompanied by strings and piano. In the various sections of the composition highlights an interesting guitar solo, a change of pace more fast (causing a mood of anxiety and fear), demonic voices and elements powermetaleros "among other things, complete the whole picture. At some point, suddenly everything is irregular, and again we return to the nostalgia for the sounds of piano and strings from the start. The perfect music to read the book Zafon.
This develops the rest of the album. Remarkable is the combination of different elements, sometimes very far stylistically, but nevertheless do not lose consistency. "Road to self" definitely gives a different perspective to the music.
These South American artists put into their compositions with a heavy load of emotion in expression (although combined with aggressive lyrical lines). Each of the works is difficult to predict how they will develop it. These musicians are unpredictable and full of surprise. In the first part of the compositions appear more "chaotic" to go later, darker climates.
Listening to the album several times, the mixtures are perceived stylistic and climate are well designed and the organization of the whole story is full of emotion, beyond a beautifully sung performance by the vocalist. The album is able to enter into a reflective mood, wistful and melancholy in a very personal and original.
This is a work that sure is hard to get bored. A band that will have to wait as it develops from now on, although they have given a great first step.
I appreciate the fact that I have been somewhat extended to the analysis of the album, but it is difficult to give words that highlight the record ... Forgive me reader evaluation form and try to come to the plate.
